Beginnings

Alessandro (Sandro) and Cesare Moreno, as young boys in their home city of Rome.

The brothers taught themselves to play the piano and harmonise their voices, each gaining proficiency in playing several instruments and singing in a number of languages.

Their repertoire included Spanish, Mexican and Italian folk songs as well as many in English.

The Journey Begins

In 1959 Cesare and Sandro leave Rome to take up a position as the house band for Sir Reginald Ansett on Hayman Island, Northern Queensland, Australia.

Over the next three years they provided a soundtrack for holidaymakers from around Australia and the world, playing everything from dinner to dance music.

After Hayman they won contracts with a string of classy hotels like Res Oriental, Le Chateau in Melbourne, Mario's Restaurant - Exhibition Street, Melbourne) and The Highway in Adelaide.

In 1967 they purchased a property in Kilsyth in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs and began building their own venue -

The Villa Borghese.

The Villa became their home after that and the brothers consolidated on their earlier achievements and built a successful restaurant and entertainment business.

In 1977 they extended the Villa to include Capriccio’s 77 which boasted, amongst other things, a coloured glass dance floor.
